Did you know we offer a tool that can greatly reduce the time you spend editing in Lightroom? Order-Specific References! Available at no charge with Signature Process and Scan, these simple tools help us scan your film closer to your vision and save you time in post-processing. Time better spent doing what you love!
Picture this—you are doing a branding shoot for a local calligrapher, and she has created multiple invitation suites for you to photograph on artisanal papers. You are floored by her talent and can’t wait to showcase her beautiful work on film!
But here is the dilemma—our color techs won't know what color a product is in real life unless you show us. This is where Order-Specific References come in! While you are at the shoot, snap a few digital photos of the invitations (your phone works great!). Then, when you order your scans online, upload these digital images under "Order-Specific Reference Images" and let us know how we should use them.
Whether it be the color of a wall, fabric or design element, these digital snaps take just a second but go so far in helping us see exactly what color we should aim for in your scans, saving you time in post.
These images are how we scanned Sarah Ingram's work without any Order-Specific References—we picked a point of reference, like this white background, and allowed the other hues to fall where they may.
Sarah snapped a few photos on site with her phone, then sent them to us with her film:
With these digital images as reference, our expert color technicians could see the correct color of the paper stock. This helped us scan the flat lay and tablescape accurately, matching Sarah’s end vision and saving her time in post!
This set of images were scanned with the Order-Specific References Sarah Ingram sent us.

Aside from being a guide to the coloring of certain products, they are also super handy when you have a job that veers from your usual aesthetic. Order-Specific References help you experiment in a new style and make sure your scans align to your new (or experimental) aesthetic! As with product shots like invitations or flowers, simply email us a few edited digital images from your shoot.
There is a spot to upload your order-specific references when you order your film scans online. Our expert color techs will reference these images only for this order, then return to your standard reference images for future orders.
